This watercolor painting is a depiction of Downtown Danville Illinois during the 1930’s. It features the locally iconic Fischer Theater as well as other downtown buildings, some of which no longer exist.
Danville Illinois is birthplace of actors Dick and Jerry Van Dyke as well as Gene Hackman, singer Bobby Short and astronaut Joe Tanner. Abraham Lincoln also practiced law in Danville before he was president. Our fair town may not be very large but it has a rich history and you might even call it a hidden gem of the midwest. I decided to paint this downtown scene to reflect on how much the world around us has changed over the years and how we might appreciate the people who helped make the town what it is today.
